Claim #3
Technological advancements have also been a tragic cause in the increase of child exploitation. The improvements in air flight and other forms of transportation have resulted in cheaper travel for civilians.(Aronawitz 2001). For traffickers, cheaper transportation means more trafficking. Also, the Internet allows, "paedophiles, previously socially marginalized, to communicate freely with each other, thereby endorsing and validating behaviours that are exploitative of children...chat rooms provide a safe haven for collecting child pornography, exchanging pictures, images and video footage," (Chase and Statham 2005). Therefore, a demand in pornography and similar activities lets traffickers know that there are interests in children for sexual purposes. This correlates with globalization, since traffickers only supply children since profits will be made. Furthermore, traffickers have started using online catalogs of the children they have enslaved in order to know where to send the children next. Ultimately, there is a demand in the sexual 'services' of children because of the pervasive minds of the demanding adults.
